What we install

A fire alarm is a system, not just a set of detectors. It is made up of a control panel, detectors, manual call points, sounders and, where required, links to emergency lighting and door holders. We install and commission complete systems and also extend or repair existing ones.

  • Conventional systems — for small and medium premises, divided into zones.
  • Addressable systems — for larger or more complex buildings, where each device is identified on the panel.
  • Wireless systems — radio-linked devices for buildings where running cable is difficult or not allowed.
  • Domestic-grade systems — interlinked mains smoke and heat alarms for rented homes and HMOs.

Which system and what coverage

In non-domestic premises the responsible person must carry out a fire risk assessment, and that assessment decides whether an alarm is needed and what it must cover. The coverage is described by a category under BS 5839-1: L1 to L5 for life protection and P1 and P2 for property protection.

  • L1 — detection throughout the building.
  • L2 — escape routes plus defined higher-risk rooms.
  • L3 — escape routes and the rooms opening onto them.
  • L4 — escape routes only.
  • M — manual call points only.

We install to the category your risk assessment calls for, and can talk it through with whoever carried it out.

How the job runs

We survey the premises, agree the system type and device positions, and give a fixed price. Installation is planned around trading so you keep working. Once installed, the system is programmed, commissioned and tested, and you receive the documentation along with a walk-through of how to test and log it.

For ongoing servicing and records see fire alarm servicing and testing, or add the testing to a BusinessCare™ plan.

Where we install

We cover Somerset, Bath and Bristol from our base in Wells: pubs, restaurants, shops, offices, workshops, holiday lets, B&Bs and rented property. See the pages for Wells, Bath and Bristol, or your nearest town or village.

Questions we get asked

Before you call.

Do I need a fire alarm in my business?

Most non-domestic premises need some form of fire detection and warning. Your fire risk assessment determines the type and coverage.

Can you install in an occupied building?

Yes. Work is planned around your hours, and in some buildings wireless systems avoid the need for extensive cabling.

Do you provide paperwork?

Yes. Commissioning records are provided on completion and the system log is set up for ongoing weekly tests.
